Flight Speed

I perched on a long pole and viewed the speed training area. There appeared to be red lines every ten yards for about a mile. At the start of the mile there was a large starting platform, and at the end was a timer the size of a billboard and there was also a small sign showing your miles per hour. Yeah, I could do this. I hopped up to the grey lavender platform and my claws clacked against the cold metal. My feathers lit on fire at once. I spread my wings. "Ready, set, go!" Came a mechanical voice. I thrust my wings downward as quick as I knew how. I was flying in a straight line. How easy could this get? I watched the red yard-marking ropes whip by like jets. When I finally reached the end, I checked my time. "ONE MINUTE FIFTY-EIGHT SECONDS?!?" I exclaimed. Certainly it couldn't have taken me that long! After all, I was just flying in a straight line! Well, maybe I was just a little bit slow...

I saw the last bird do 1 minute 58 seconds. I hoped i could do better. The same mechanical voice said "Ready, set, Go." I jumped from my perch and flew off. I set my wings down and my beak was level with my neck. I didn't turn at all and i came with a time of "1 minute 42 seconds, thats ok but next time i will do better." i squawked.

I lit my wings ablaze, then flapped lazily through the course. Who cares what time I got? Today, I needed to just relax.

When I reached the end, I didn't bother to look at the time. I heard action going on in the battle course and I just HAD to see that, despite my show-offy nature. I zoomed over to go check it out.

I lept off my perch and sped past the clouds in a streak of mist. When I reached the ground my coach told me my time, "1 minute and 30 seconds" he said. "I can do better than that next time" I said.
