The underground tunnels

It's so, very dark and the air was stale and nothing was alive or moving. I feel around, and it feels like a cool place, but my flashlight had gone out and I didn't have time to explore.
MUCH LATER...
I find another door on the ceiling after what seemed like hours of walking. My canteen was empty and I began to give up hope, but then I opened the trapdoor. Normally there would just be a bunch of earth, but a fluid, chunky sand dripped through. I swam through it to the top. Who would have thought quicksand would save anyone's life?
